ABOUT US

The idea for this team came about when a young boy named Eli started watching competitive wheelchair basketball online.  Louisiana didn't have a youth wheelchair basketball team so he traveled out of state to play with the nearest team, the Mississippi Wheelcats.  There he was welcomed and accepted.  He fell in love with the team and the competitiveness of the game.  A decision was made to start a team in Louisiana, and here we are ready to give it our all.  It did not take long to find other excited players (7 as of now) to join the team.

Cajun Wheelers, Inc. is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that offers the opportunity for young athletes with lower limb disabilities to play competitive basketball.  We aim to create an environment that inspires personal growth and develops perseverance by encouraging our athletes to pursue freedom and enjoyment.  We are a member of the Junior Division of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) and the only youth prep basketball team for boys and girls ages 6-13 years old, in the State of Louisiana.  Developed for youth with lower limb disabilities, we strive to provide the opportunity for a program that will develop key fundamental skills needed in basketball and in everyday life.  Our vision is for our athletes to go far beyond the sport of basketball.  They will develop life-long friendships, build courage, experience freedom, joy and independence.
