ABOUT US

The idea for this team came about when a young boy named Eli started watching competitive wheelchair basketball online. Louisiana didn't have a youth wheelchair basketball team, so he traveled out of state to play with the Mississippi Wheelcats. There he was welcomed and accepted. He fell in love with the team and its competitiveness. From this came the Cajun Wheelers, the first youth wheelchair basketball program in Louisiana. It did not take long to find other excited players to join, and we look forward to growing even more.

Cajun Wheelers Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that offers the opportunity for young athletes with lower limb disabilities to play competitive wheelchair basketball. We aim to create an environment that inspires personal growth and develops perseverance by encouraging our athletes to pursue freedom and enjoyment. We are a member of the Junior Division of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) and the only youth team in the State of Louisiana. We welcome boys and girls ages 6-18 for our prep and varsity teams. Developed for youth with permanent lower limb disabilities, we strive to provide the opportunity for a program that will develop fundamental skills needed in basketball and everyday life. Our vision is for our athletes to go far beyond basketball and apply the skills they learn to all aspects of life. They will develop friendships, build courage, and experience freedom, joy, and independence.

Come roll with us!
